Sometimes the documents or products that you need to ship are small. Even when that's the case, you should still be able to have a strong paper core that protects and helps identify your product during shipping or mailing. With a small ID paper core from Western Container, you get the benefit of a sturdy paper core that is made using the same materials as our larger paper cores.

Small ID paper cores are a convenient option for many businesses. If you're already familiar with Western Container's other products, then you know that we are a superior paper core manufacturer. You can trust us to provide you with standard or custom paper cores that will help you package whatever you need to send. When regular paper cores and paper tubes aren't the right fit, a small ID paper core might just be the perfect solution.

Like all of our other paper tubes and cores, our small ID paper cores are fully customizable. You can choose the diameter, length and wall thickness.

Performance Requirements for Small ID Paper Cores

Small ID paper cores support applications where compact roll formats, tight winding, and precise handling are required. Their reduced diameter places higher stress on the core wall during winding, making material density, adhesive consistency, and winding tension important factors in overall performance. These cores must maintain roundness and structural stability even when used with thin films, narrow tapes, or lightweight substrates that are sensitive to deformation. Consistent dimensional accuracy helps prevent telescoping, uneven winding, and machine stoppages during converting or packaging.

Material Behavior in Compact Roll Applications

Paperboard used for small ID cores must balance stiffness with flexibility to avoid crushing under radial pressure. First run materials provide uniform fiber structure, supporting predictable performance across long production runs. Wall thickness selection influences how the core responds to winding tension, especially for products that require tight, uniform rolls. Surface finishes such as silicone release or wax coatings help manage friction and unwind characteristics, supporting smooth operation on automated equipment.

Dimensional Accuracy for High Speed Production

Small ID cores often run on high speed converting lines where even minor dimensional deviations can affect roll alignment. Precision cutting and re cutting help maintain consistent lengths, clean edges, and accurate IDs. These characteristics support stable mounting on mandrels, reduce vibration, and improve roll formation. Standard sizes such as .785" and 1" ID offer quick turnaround, while custom diameters allow compatibility with specialized equipment.

Customization for Industry Specific Needs

Different industries rely on small ID cores for unique applications. Label manufacturers may require smooth interior surfaces to protect delicate adhesives, while film producers may need reinforced walls for narrow width materials. Custom lengths, wall thicknesses, and surface treatments help align the core with specific production requirements. The ability to order without minimum quantities supports both prototype development and full scale production.

FAQ

How Does Diameter Influence Small ID Core Performance?

Smaller diameters increase radial pressure during winding, making material density and wall thickness important for maintaining roundness and stability.

Why Is Precision Cutting Important for Small ID Cores?

Accurate cuts help the core seat properly on equipment, reduce vibration, and support consistent roll formation during high speed production.

What Factors Determine the Right Wall Thickness?

Wall thickness depends on roll weight, winding tension, substrate type, and the mechanical demands of the converting process.

Can Small ID Cores Be Customized for Specific Equipment?

Yes. Diameters, lengths, wall thicknesses, and surface finishes can be tailored to match equipment requirements and improve handling performance.
